Background

According to the school’s handbook, The St. Giles’ Nursery School is often referred to as “The Beacon on the Hill”, as it sits at the corner on top of the hill at The Ivy, St. Michael. The school was officially opened on Wednesday, 31st October 2007 by the then Minister of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture, The Honourable Anthony Wood.

The St. Giles’ Nursery School is the first nursery school to become a member of the 4H movement. To date, Agricultural Science has become a major part of the school’s curriculum. The school has also been involved in many extra-curricular activities over the years which include Violin, Foreign Language, Dancing, Puppetry, Healthy Lifestyle, Tourism and Communication projects and many others.

The St. Giles’ Nursery School is a co-educational institution and caters to students in the three to four age range. The school also caters to inclusion of differently able students.

 

The curriculum is guided by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Innovation. Content is delivered through an integrated approach to teaching, where the Learning Centre Approach and the Project Based Learning are utilized.

Subject areas include Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Visual & Performing Arts, General Science, Health & Family Life Education, Religious & Moral Education, Physical Education and Music.

Vision

Technology has become a major part of everyday life; therefore, it has developed to be a more important component of the school’s curriculum. Hence, it is the vision of the school to provide adequate technological support to each student as they manipulate various devices and navigate further development in this digital age. It is with this in mind, that the school has responded favourably to educating students in the beginning courses of Robotics. The vision of the school is to produce students who are holistically developed to their full potential in a safe and loving environment. These early experiences will be building blocks to greater future knowledge in the changing technologically advanced world.
