Conclusion

Conclusion

From my experience, all children are more eager to work on a device, whether aa smartphone or tablet. It is with this in mind that I was able to cater lessons and watch students with varying abilities navigate through the lesson with some assistance or on their own.

I observed that the young students in my class would rather work on these devices which allowed for whole class participation but students with the special needs outlined were more disappointed when these devices were removed at the end of the lesson. It is with these realization in mind, that I conclude that a hybrid classroom is the way to go to keep the children on task, especially the ones with special needs. Odunukwe posits, “Technology has enabled many autistic students develop needful skills which are paramount to their survival and day-to day activities”.

From my experience, all children regardless of age or ability seem to grasp manipulating a device and understand the ins and out of technology more easily than any spoken words. Therefore, I believe, with technology and various strategies, students will not only be able to perform better but the possibility of them reaching their full potential is obtainable. Dikusar states that, “The use of technology in special education helps break the barriers for children with disabilities and provide them with access to the most relevant educational programs. Technology helps provide students with individual learning events, enables reaching higher flexibility and differentiation in educational methodologies”. Able bodied students and special needs students can now be effectively tailored to by the teacher as these strategies are designed to suit each child.

The rationale and objectives of the Early Childhood syllabus expresses the view that each child matters and that each child has the right to equitable and quality education.
