Digital Strategy vs Technology Plan
A digital strategy is a written plan that guides objectives and goals to be used in an institution. It helps one put the right technology and procedures in place to successfully achieve the objectives. A technology plan facilitates and supports learning using instructional technologies. The digital strategy to be employed for this assignment builds on the previous goal established for the school as outlined in the school’s mission statement which is to ensure that the students receive maximum quality early childhood education. For this assignment, I choose to name this digital strategy, “Specialtech Kidz”. My aim is to ensure that all children, regardless of their developmental ability, can acquire the skills and the knowledge they will need to traverse in this evolving technological world.
Digital Infrastructure and Procurement As a school who has now been thrust into the world of technology due to the Covid-19 experience, we don't presently have a lab or particular room where technology is taught. over the past year the network has been improved where additional ports were put in place around the school to help increase the bandwidth of wi-fi around the entire school. the teacher and or the person teaching technology is solely responsible for the tablet which are kept under lock and key at the school plant. all information entered and stored on the computer/tablets are authorized by the Ministry of Education, since these devices are ultimately their property. During the Covid-19 period, parents were requested to sign documents taking responsibility for the tablet that was placed in their care for their child's use.
Evaluating and Monitoring Students again have once been given passwords set up the Ministry of Education for easy access to joining classroom and communication with parents. Students information can be easily accessed on the OpenEmis site, class list, register of attendance and progress comment can also be recorded. When the OpenEmis tool is in working order, reports can be generated effectively and sent to the parents.
The purpose of Specialtech Kidz is to assist in differentiated instruction within the preschool classroom. In a formal setting, various abilities of students are being recognized as students are observed to be at different stages of development. Their developmental stages are not all at the same level or at the level for three-year-olds as described by psychologists. Saul McLeod, states that “Cognitive development occurs through the interaction of innate capacities and environmental events, and children pass through a series of stages. Piaget’s theory of cognitive development proposes 4 stages … the sequence of the stages is universal across culture and follow the same invariant (unchanging) order. All children go through the same stages in the same order (but not all at the same rate)”. Past experiences and how they have been raised usually play an important role in their level of development. Two expert psychologists in the field of child development, Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky both proposed that there are specific factors that aid in the development of children. According to Kendra Cherry, “Piaget felt that development is largely fueled from within, while Vygotsky believed that external factors (such as culture) and people (such as parents, caregivers, and peers) play a more significant role”. However, some students are faced with various disabilities, whether mentally, socially, or physically. Some of these students find it difficult to adequately communicate in the teaching and learning process employed within the daily curriculum. Gainfully employing them in technological experiences can assist them to improve in their development, since these young learners who were born in the technological age appear to understand technology more relevantly that grown-ups.
Implementation
The goal of Specialtech Kidz is to help students adapt in the classroom environment and have a more meaningful day as they traverse their way in learning and developing in the classroom setting. This was born out of a passion to have all children growing and developing at their own past after being thrust into an inclusive classroom. The Ministry of Education in Curriculum 2000 advocates that no child be left behind. In keeping with this premise, this strategy seeks to ensure that measures will be put in place to adequately reach each student at it level of development. This guarantees that all children will be catered to employing the use of tools that are more appropriate to them to help in their education. Students will be able to work on devices to complete tasks in a more colourful, engaging and age-appropriate atmosphere. Provision will be made to have tablets donated and kept as the school in order to ensure that they will be no damages. Work and or sites will be loaded in a timely manner by the teacher to make sure that all students are on task in the eventuality that there is a break or slow down of internet connectivity.
